Social Distancing Onboard
Effective immediately, all airlines under the Malaysia Aviation Group – Firefly, Malaysia Airlines and MASwings will comply to the latest regulation as gazetted by the Federal Government of Malaysia on total number of passengers allowed to be carried onboard.
As stipulated under the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases (Measures Within Infected Local Areas) (No. 5) Regulations 2020, dated 3rd May 2020, point number 8 (1) states that:
A holder of any land, sea or air public transport licence or permit to carry passengers shall ensure that the public transport relating to his licence or permit does not carry more than half of the total maximum capacity of the number of passengers that may be carried on board the public transport for each journey.
The regulation is supported by the Malaysian Ministry of Transport, which has imposed airlines to implement the following from check-in process at the airport all through boarding and onboard:
i. Observe one metre distancing between passengers;
ii. Create line marking for social distancing;
iii. Ensure empty seating between passengers;
iv. Disallow passenger seat preference block.
As such, Firefly Airlines will endeavour to contact passengers prior to their flights for further arrangements.
