PARTICIPANTS of Penang Starwalk 2008 now stand a chance to fly to more destinations as Malaysia Airlines (MAS) and its subsidiary, Firefly, have contributed a total of 11 tickets for the Dec 14 event.
MAS gave a return ticket each to Kuala Lumpur and Hong Kong from Penang worth a total of RM4,300 excluding airport taxes and surcharges.
Penang-based Firefly sponsored two return tickets each to Medan and Bandar Acheh, and a return ticket each to Kota Bharu, Terengganu, Kuantan, Koh Samui and Phuket, excluding taxes and surchages. The tickets are worth a total of RM5,000.
MAS northern region area manager Mohd Saleem Mohd Shariff said the sponsorship was aimed at creating awareness on the airline’s on-going ‘Everyday Low Fare’ programme.
“We are also taking the opportunity to thank our customers for being so supportive of Malaysia Airlines,” he said, adding that six MAS sales staff members would join the walk.
Firefly Penang hub manager Audrey Yu said Firefly was providing full support for Starwalk since it was a community event while Firelfy is a community airline.
“We also wished to actively promote our latest new route launched on Dec 1 for daily direct flights between Subang and Medan.”
“This is also part of our awareness programme for our new routes from Penang to Bandar Acheh and Medan,” she said, adding that new routes in the pipeline were from Penang to Krabi and Hua Hin in Thailand.
Several other airlines had earlier also contributed air tickets for Penang Starwalk 2008 for flights to Manado, Vientiane, Guilin, Hanoi and Taipei.
The 10km walk is jointly organised by Star Publications (M) Bhd and the Penang Amateur Athletic Association.
The main sponsors for the event are Sunquick, Suzuki, Panasonic, Milo, 100Plus, Counterpain, Malta Quench, Pallas, Spritzer, DiGi and Magnum. Red FM is the official radio station.
The walk will be flagged off at 7am from the Penang International Sports Arena by Yang di-Pertua Negri Tun Abdul Rahman Abbas.
Participants who complete the walk within two hours will be eligible for a lucky contest that offers attractive prizes including five motorcycles, air tickets and mobile phones.
