Malaysian media takes a familiarisation trip to Koh Samui

15 May 2012

Subang – Community airline, Firefly, has teamed up with Lé Meridien Koh Samui Resort & Spa to jointly organise a four day/ three night media familiarisation programme in Koh Samui to highlight the tourism attractions on the island.

The programme, starting tomorrow, will also allow journalists to experience first-hand the product offerings and services of Firefly and Lé Meridien Koh Samui Resort & Spa.

The media delegation will be led by Firefly’s Head of Marketing & Communications, Ms Angelina C Fernandez and will comprise representatives from Malaysian dailies as well as travel and high-end lifestyle magazines targeted at expatriates living in Malaysia and Thailand.

Angelina said: “This familiarisation trip to Koh Samui is part of our continuous marketing efforts to promote Koh Samui as a leisure and incentive destination to Malaysians. During their visit, participating journalists will visit places of interest such as the 18th century Nakhai-Huathanon shrine, Chaweng night market, floating Ocean Pier and Koh Phangan Island. Lé Meridien Koh Samui Resort & Spa will host the media accommodation and meeting venue for Firefly’s exclusive media briefing on May 17 which will, first and foremost, highlight the tourism attractions in Koh Samui and Malaysia and then the airline’s products, services and wide network coverage to the Thai and Malaysian press.

“The Subang – Koh Samui route is exclusive to Firefly which provides direct, daily flights. The short flight time of two hours and direct air accessibility to Koh Samui appeals to honeymooners, wedding planners and corporate companies looking for a venue to hold their events. “These are the segments we would like to further tap by providing good inflight services to our passengers and responding to their need.”

Firefly’s CEO, Ignatius M.C. Ong elaborated: “Firefly’s load factor on the Subang – Koh Samui – Subang route had been consistently high, an average of above 80 per cent since the airline commenced services. Our Customer Satisfaction Index (CSI) on this route showed that inflight services were consistently above 90 per cent. We take feedback from our customers very seriously and we’re continuously working to improve our customer experience.”

CSI is an independent customer survey carried out on-board daily on every flight on all of Firefly’s routes.

Elaborating on the benefits of flying Firefly, Ong said holiday makers enjoy convenient flight timings. He added: “Flights arrive in Koh Samui at 2.35pm, providing convenience for passengers to check-in immediately at their hotels. Firefly departs from Koh Samui at 2.55pm, allowing holiday makers to spend an entire morning and part of the afternoon in the island.”

Presently, Firefly’s network footprint includes direct flights to 12 regional and 12 domestic routes from its city hubs in Subang and Penang. The airline’s offerings to passengers include complimentary refreshments on-board, 20kg checked-baggage allowance and allocated seating.

Firefly has carried some 102,000 passengers since the Subang – Koh Samui route commenced on 26 October 2008. Koh Samui is one of two destinations in Thailand that Firefly flies to, the other being Phuket. There are currently four weekly services between Penang and Phuket.
