Firefly’s MD receives Global Leadership Awards 2011

SUBANG – The Managing Director of Firefly, Your Community Airline, Dato’ Eddy Leong was honoured for his outstanding leadership qualities at the Global Leadership Awards (GLA) 2011, held last Friday, at Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre. The event was organised by The Leaders International, an elite corporate magazine based in Kuala Lumpur with branches in United Arab Emirates.

The award highlights good governance and industry's best practices that had taken both local and global corporations to greater heights in achieving their visions and missions while recognizing outstanding individuals who have outshone others in their respective fields. With Firefly’s quality and outstanding services matching these criteria, Leong bagged the award under the community airline sector.

A full pewter trophy wrapped in 24 karat gold and a winner’s plaque were presented by theWomen, Family and Community Development Minister, Dato’ Sri Shahrizat Abdul Jalil.

He said, “Firefly has grown from a small airline, operating just two F50s to our present fleet of 17 aircraft comprising 10 ATR72-500s, one B737-400 and six B737-800s. We could not have come this far without the good efforts of my co-workers. A company does not mean anything without a dedicated team; hence this is recognition of their hard work and contribution.”

Leong recorded his appreciation to all Firefly employees.

Firefly has also been previously recognised for its outstanding services. In 2010, Firefly was awarded the Frost & Sullivan Value Airline of the Year and the Green Initiative of the Year award by Leaders in Aviation in conjunction with the Doha Aviation Summit. Firefly was also recognised as the Best Brand in Aviation for the Brand Laureate 2010.
