Subang – Firefly, Your Community Airline, will commence three daily flights between Kuala Lumpur and Langkawi from December 1.
Firefly’s managing director, Dato’ Eddy Leong, said: “Market research has shown there is good demand for this sector. Thus, we are utilising our biggest aircraft, B737-800 which has a seating capacity of 189.
“The flights will depart from Kuala Lumpur International Airport’s main terminal. This is advantageous especially for those passengers arriving to Kuala Lumpur International Airport main terminal on Malaysia Airlines and taking their onward flight to Langkawi on Firefly.
“Our code share agreement with Malaysia Airlines has facilitated interlining facilities for passenger and baggage check-through. This is especially convenient as it saves passengers the hassle of rechecking their baggage on Firefly upon arrival at Kuala Lumpur International Airport main terminal. With interlining facilities, passengers can collect their baggage at their final destination, which in this case is at Langkawi International Airport.
“The code share agreement permits passengers with onward journey on Firefly to enjoy the same benefits they had enjoyed on Malaysia Airlines such as meals on board and the same checked baggage allowance as Malaysia Airlines. This is because we honour Malaysia Airlines’ General Conditions of Carriage.
“In addition, all Firefly passengers on this route will also enjoy aerobridge facilities for their convenience and safety.
“Our other unique selling point is our guaranteed lowest fares. This translates to cost savings when travellers on the Kuala Lumpur – Langkawi route choose Firefly. Passengers can opt for more savings when they purchase our bundled sets of services which include in-flight meals, seat selection and checked baggage allowance.”
Firefly’s also flies twice daily from Subang to Langkawi and twice daily from Penang to Langkawi using its ATR 72-500 aircraft.

Firefly began its operations in 2007 and currently operates a fleet of 10 ATR 72-500 turboprop, four B737-800s and one B737-400s. The ATR 72-500s operate out of Penang and Subang. The B737-800s operate out of Kuala Lumpur and Kota Kinabalu while the B737-400s operate out of Johor Bahru.
Firefly services include point-to-point connectivity, aligning with the Indonesia-Malaysia-Thailand Growth Triangle (IMT-GT) agenda that offer services within Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia and Singapore.
