Firefly, Malaysia's premium short-haul airline announced today that it signed a cooperation agreement with Citilink, an LCC airline of Garuda Indonesia Group, to expand its regional reach in Indonesia. Through this cooperation, the two airlines hope to seize the opportunity of emerging market in ASEAN, as Citilink and Firefly can expand their existing routes by their respective partner routes.

Commenting on the partnership is Fireflys Chief Executive Officer Ignatius Ong, "We are delighted to announce that Firefly and Citilink will be working together to provide travellers in Malaysia and Sumatera greater connectivity and customer benefits. This strategic partnership was formed to expand our network and increase profitability. Unlike code sharing, this agreement will bring more traffic into Malaysia and help Firefly grow as an airline with added revenues. Our plans for growth include entering secondary airports in Indonesia, such as Palembang and Padang, just to name a few."

"This business expansion is an attempt to reach broader market in the region, in line with our commitment to provide interconnectivity between cities in the ASEAN market, President and CEO Citilink Arif Wibowo said.

In March 2014, Citilink recently launched its first international flight from Surabaya in East Java, Indonesia, to Johor Bahru, Malaysia. Coming up is the flight from Surabaya to Kuala Lumpur this May 2014.

Firefly, on the other hand, will launch two new routes in September this year. The new routes are; to/from Penang (PEN) - Krabi (KBV), and Johor Bahru (JHB) - Ipoh (IPH). Fares for flights from Penang (PEN) - Krabi (KBV) will start at RM 149 one-way and Johor Bahru (JHB) - Ipoh (IPH) at RM 59 one-way. Tickets for these new routes are up for sale now.

Along with its incredibly affordable fares, Firefly offer passengers the convenience of complimentary 20kg checked baggage allowance, in-flight refreshments, 30 minutes check-in buffer, self-check-in facilities, as well as the opportunity to accrue and redeem Enrich points-all essential conveniences for busy individuals travelling during peak periods.
