Sabah is located on the northern portion of the world’s third-largest island, Borneo. Kota Kinabalu is the state capital and main entry point into the state. Kota Kinabalu is the capital city of Sabah with a population of almost 244,700 (2017 census). Locals here often refers Kota Kinabalu as ‘KK’ in short. During the British colonial rule from late 1800s to 1963, Kota Kinabalu was known as Jesselton. The city offers magnificent views on Crocker Range, where the highest mountain is Mount Kinabalu. Kota Kinabalu has quickly become a modern city. Now you can find modern shopping malls with many western shops inside. The city also offers some great Hawker centers, where you can get delicious meals. Good meals are also aplenty along the splendid hawkers at Tanjung Aru, right next to the beach.
