FIREFLY Lights Up the Sky for Kerteh Travellers

Kerteh, 16 February 2009 - Firefly, Your Community Airline, introduced its "unique" route from Subang - Kerteh on 12 January 2009 and today, the route was officially launched by the Chief Minister of Terengganu who together with PETRONAS Carigali Sdn Bhd and ExxonMobil Exploration & Production Malaysia Inc. officials and; Firefly's Managing Director was at Kerteh Airport to receive the arrival of its flight into Kerteh at 6:00pm. Firefly's twice-daily flights from Subang to Kerteh signify the carrier's commitment in expanding its domestic network.

This route into Kerteh is the first to be offered by a local based airline, was applauded and well received by the Chief Minister of Terengganu and also by the oil and gas industry, mainly PETRONAS and ExxonMobil. With this new addition, Firefly now serves 2 destinations in Terengganu namely Kuala Terengganu and Kerteh.

The event started at 5:15pm with the arrival of Chief Minister of Terengganu and government officials, PETRONAS and ExxonMobil's management, with Firefly management.

Firefly's new aircraft, the ATR72-500 arrived at 6:00pm; saw the Chief Minister of Terengganu, Yang Amat Berhormat, Datuk Ahmad Bin Said gracing the event. In his speech, the Chief Minister said that "the oil and gas industry is our top economy contributor to Terengganu; we are pleased with this connection offered by Firefly as it will expand the economic benefits to our state. The number of Malaysians and foreigners traveling into Terengganu will now increase and we look forward to exposing our tourism and leisure spots to a different level, namely the international tourism market. And I have just been informed by Eddy Leong, MD of Firefly that Firefly intends to fly directly from Kuala Terengganu to Singapore, with this I am even more confident of the economic boost for Terengganu's economy."

Managing Director of Firefly, Mr. Eddy Leong said, "We are pleased to offer this new route to Kerteh. This route is our commitment in providing alternative, affordable travel for all Malaysians. The main objective is to provide convenient transportation into and out of Kerteh that is economical, both in terms of time and money". He also added that the flight time into Kerteh and Subang was set for the convenience of the oil and gas industry who commutes daily for work.

"In addition, Firefly's Kerteh route will also add convenience to leisure travellers, as well-known tourism spots such as Kijal and Cherating is only a few minutes drive from the Kerteh airport. Firefly is now very seriously looking into double daily flights to meet increasing demand. Since the initial start of this route, there have been many inquiries and interest both from the business and leisure passengers. We have had loading of more than 50 percent every day for this route without much marketing or advertising effort".

He highlighted that, "Our aircraft - the brand new ATR 72-500 is hailed by the aviation community as the future of regional transport. It uses advanced technologies in ways previously unmatched in the short-haul sector."

This means regular travellers into and out of Kerteh will be able to now increase their flying experience with much more comfortable seats, new cabin interior design and advanced acoustic treatment with quiet cabin features. In short, a totally new flying experience compared to what was available.
