Firefly Flies Direct from Subang to Phuket

1 May 2009

Subang, 1 May 2009 – Firefly, Your Community Airline launched its inaugural flight from Subang to Phuket today. Previously, the airline flies to Phuket via Penang four times weekly. The first flight departed for Phuket at 2.40 pm (local time). Passengers arrived at Phuket International airport at 1510pm with a traditional warm Thai welcome reception organized by Thailand Authority Tourism together with Tourism Malaysia in Phuket.

The aircraft then departed Phuket International airport at 1530pm with a delegate of Phuket media and tourism officials headed by Assistant Director of Phuket District Office, Mr. Sooksan Sieng E-K and Deputy Mayor of Patong Mr. Chairat Sukban. The delegates were accompanied by Director of Tourism Malaysia Bangkok and Thailand sector, En. Iskanda Mirza Mohd Yusof.

Receiving the returning flight from Phuket at 6 pm later that day at Subang airport, was Firefly Managing Director, Eddy Leong and Firefly Head of Marketing and Communications, Angelina Fernandez together with Tourism Malaysia officials and Tourism Selangor, Yang Berhormat Elizabeth Wong Keat Ping with a Malaysian "selamat datang". This delegate will then participate in a full 4 days programme hosted by Tourism Selangor and Tourism Malaysia to the many cultures and attractions in the Klang Valley.

At a press conference held at the Skypark Subang Terminal, Ms. Angelina Fernandez, said in her statement, "From our statistics, we know that since we began operations in 2007, many Malaysians travel through Penang to get to Phuket. Today, I am happy to say that Firefly is giving back to the community by creating ease and convenience with this direct flight to Phuket from our hub in Subang."

Fernandez also noted from the passenger traffic data that they receive, many foreign visitors fly into Penang for visa runs. With this new route, foreign visitors will have an option of doing so in the heart of Malaysia. "With the convenience of our airport in Subang, getting around within the Klang Valley will prove to be cost and time saving. On top of that, they have the advantage to explore other parts of Malaysia whilst they are here," she said.
