Firefly expands its turboprop network:

NEW and reinstated regional routes

2 July 2012

SUBANG - Firefly is introducing two new routes, Kota Bharu - Singapore and Penang - Koh Samui which will commence services on 10 August and 11 August 2012, respectively. The airline will also simultaneously restart its Subang - Hat Yai route which was previously suspended prior to its originally planned inaugural flight in May this year as a safety measure due to the situation at the city then. This service will commence on 17 August 2012.

The Kota Bharu - Singapore and Subang - Hat Yai routes will have flights every Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday. Whereas, flights between Penang - Koh Samui will be on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. Ticket sales to these new destinations are now open and purchases can be made from Firefly's website (www.fireflyz.com.my), Firefly’s airport and city ticketing offices, Firefly's call-centre, and through travel agents.

In conjunction with these new routes, Firefly is offering special promotional airfares from RM 99 for the Kota Bharu - Singapore and Subang - Hat Yai routes, and RM 199 for Penang - Koh Samui route. All of which is an all-in, one way fare. These promotional rates are for bookings made from, 02 July - 15 July 2012 for travel starting from respective commencement dates to 30 Mar 2013. Travellers are encouraged to take the opportunity to enjoy these promotional airfares and explore Firefly’s exciting new routes and destination.

Firefly's CEO, Ignatius M.C. Ong, said: "We are mounting these new flights as we see demands in the various respective markets. As such, we intend to meet the needs of our loyal business and leisure customers for direct flights with convenient timings both ways.

"The rapid developments, world-class attractions, and entertainment venues in Singapore have made it an increasingly popular destination to both the leisure and business travelers culminating from east coast states of Peninsular Malaysia. We anticipate an overwhelming respond from the community of the East-Coast, as it now gives them direct and quick access to the Lion City".

Firefly's existing and most renowned holiday destinations is the pristine island of Koh Samui, in Thailand. Further to its encouraging respond from its Subang hub, the newly introduced access via its northern hub in Penang is foreseen to be equally or more enticing for Malaysians and local expatriates in the northern region.

Firefly's Head of Marketing & Communications, Angelina Fernandez said, "We are also targeting the foreign tourist for this route, particularly from Middle-East, Japan, Korea and India who largely choose Penang as their preferred holiday destination during intense seasons in their respective homelands. Islands are seen to be the demand for these markets, hence creating an access to Koh Samui via Penang will be most ideal for these travellers who are keen to explore spectacular beaches in the region concurrently.

She added, "Malaysians are attracted to Hat Yai for its shopping, good food and city attractions. Hat Yai is also the gateway to Satun and Trang provinces, both popular island destinations. We expect our load factor on the Subang - Hat Yai route to comprise Malaysians as well as foreign tourists who choose to combine Malaysia and Thailand in their itinerary. Not to forget the local expatriates in Kuala Lumpur which largely consist of the British, Australians, Americans, Japanese and Koreans.

"As for the travellers from Hat Yai, upon arrival in Subang, they will find the city airport very convenient due to its close proximity to the city centre. Resorts World Genting is popular with this market and it is only about an hour’s drive from Subang."

Additional frequencies effective 10 August 2012

Further to the new routes, Firefly will also be strengthening its current network footprint by increasing frequencies for high demand sectors as part of its turboprop expansion plan this year. The airline will continue offering the convenience of flying out of KL’s city airport in Subang, with premium services that include complimentary 20kg checked baggage allowance, in-flight refreshments and allocated seating.

Effective 10 August, the weekly frequency increases are as follows:

Regional:
Singapore – Kuantan, additional 3 flights resulting in 7 flights weekly
Subang – Pekanbaru, additional 1 flight resulting in 4 flights weekly

Domestic:
Subang – Johor Bahru, additional 4 flights, resulting in 25 flights weekly
Subang – Kota Bharu, additional 9 flights, resulting in 58 flights weekly

Subang – Penang, additional 1 flight, resulting in 66 flights weekly
