IF she had been delayed three minutes longer, Noor Asyikin Mohamad Zamri would have missed the bus leaving from her school in Sitiawan to Penang for the Star Education Fair 2009 and she would not have won the grand prize of a Philips hi-fi system in the fair's Spin & Win contest.
The 19-year-old SMK Methodist ACS student, who came to the fair on the first day together with more than 100 schoolmates as part of a school trip, said the bus was supposed to depart at 7.50am but she arrived at 8am.
"My teacher told me that the bus would have left without me in three minutes.
"This is the first time I have attended the fair and it's also the first time I've won something in a contest," she said, added that she was excited when she received a call from The Star informing her of her win yesterday.
Their lucky day: The 12 grand prize winners showing their prizes. With them is Chung (right, standing).
However, she could not make it to Penang on the second day of the fair to draw lots in the contest and collect her prize.
Another first-time visitor Janice Low, 18, won a return air ticket to Phuket.
Payroll officer T. Nirmala, 38, who was at the fair with her daughter and son, won a Philips DVD player.
They were among the winners of the 13 mystery gifts given out at the fair's Spin & Win contest held over the two days.
The prizes were given away by The Star regional manager, operations (north) Chung Chok Yin.Celcom and Firefly were the main sponsors of the contest which offered 4,500 fabulous prizes.
Winners took home iPods, flight tickets, movie tickets and vouchers for hotel stays and spa treatment.
