Subang - Firefly will reintroduce fuel surcharge for flight bookings made from March 21, 2012 to offset against persisting high jet fuel prices.
Travel bookings made from March 21 for domestic travel will be imposed a fuel surcharge of RM10 for each leg and RM20 for each leg of a regional route.
All flight bookings made prior to March 21, 2012 will not be affected.
COO Shorthaul Malaysia Airlines/ Firefly, Ignatius M.C. Ong, said the company had abolished fuel surcharge in the last quarter of 2008 but regrettably is now forced to reintroduce fuel surcharge due to unsustainable higher operating costs.
Ong added: “We will continuously monitor jet fuel prices and ensure that the surcharge we levy on passengers is fair and it is benchmarked by other airlines operating regionally.”
Jet fuel prices had risen to US$136.94 per barrel this month, from last month’s price of US$131.39. In January 2011, jet fuel price was US$108.22 per barrel.
