SUBANG - There is strong demand for holiday packages to domestic and regional destinations, judging by the sale of travel packages at the Firefly booth in Hall 3, MATTA Fair held at Putra World Trade Center (PWTC) this morning.
COO Shorthaul Malaysia Airlines/ Firefly, Ignatius M.C. Ong said holiday packages to neighbouring countries, especially Thailand, Indonesia and Singapore sold well on the first day. The combination of good air accessibility and short flight timing make these destinations a good weekend holiday getaway.
“Some travel trends we have noticed were an increasing number of travellers choosing flights over rail or coach due to the affordability and time savings of air travel. Customers were also planning their travel and making advance bookings. For instance, we received a lot of advance bookings for travel from May onwards,” he added.
The most sought after travel package as at 6pm today were the 3 day/ 2 night, Koh Samui free and easy packages with complimentary return airport transfers.
Other holiday packages that sold well as at 5pm today were the 3 day/ 2 night Medan shopping and city tour from RM369 and the 3 day/ 2 night package to Langkawi, inclusive of flight and accommodation in a three-star hotel. This package was affordably priced from RM319.
Ong said the response for the 3 day/ 2 night Hat Yai Songkhla tour was “encouraging” given the fact that Firefly had launched sales for the Subang – Hat Yai sector only this morning. Firefly’s four weekly services between Subang and Hat Yai will commence on May 2.
“Hat Yai is popular among Malaysians for its city attractions, good food and shopping options which we believe have attracted many repeat visitors. Based on sales this morning, we expect our Hat Yai packages to also be among our top selling products.”
“This year, we are targeting a 20 per cent increase in sales revenue for our turboprop operation at this MATTA Fair, compared to sales of RM1 million made at last year’s fair.
“Walk-in customers who make purchases worth a minimum of RM500 at Firefly’s booth this year will win a chance for a lucky dip.
“Two air tickets on Malaysia Airlines to selected regional destinations will be given to the highest spender on each day, while the overall top spender on all three days will receive a gift set worth RM12,000 inclusive of return air tickets to Koh Samui and accommodation at the five-star Le Méridian Koh Samui Resort & Spa.
“Firefly is giving away prizes worth RM130, 000 during these three days,” he concluded.
