Carbon Offset Scheme
Firefly's carbon offset scheme gives you the opportunity to reduce your carbon footprint. This is an entirely voluntary scheme; passengers wishing to participate are invited to opt in by using cash to offset the carbon dioxide emissions of their flight or making an one-off contribution.
These proceeds will help fund the selected United Nations-sanctioned programmes to protect rainforests in Malaysia, a natural carbon sink, that reduce greenhouse gases and curb the onset of climate change.
Through a trust fund managed by the Forest Research Institute of Malaysia (FRIM) on behalf of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (NRE), projects satisfying the stipulated criteria will be funded by these proceeds. Trustees of this fund will include the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, the Forest Research Institute of Malaysia and Malaysia Airlines.
Our carbon offset calculator will compute your share of the carbon dioxide emissions created by your flight, based on the length of the journey. Emissions are calculated using fuel consumption data from our passenger fleet.
What you need to know:
- What is carbon offset and why carbon offset?
- Do I need to participate?
- How is it calculated?
- How does aircraft emission effects climate change?
- Do you accept cash payment?
- Do I get a receipt for my contribution?
- Who are Firefly working with for the carbon offset programme?
- Will all my contribution go to the fund?
- Is my contribution for carbon offset refundable?
- Can I make a contribution after my flight?
- Is carbon offset the only way to help reduce emission?
- Are there alternatives other than fossil fuel for aircraft use?
- What improvements or actions can be made to reduce emission from aircrafts?
I want to contribute!
You can make a Pay as You Use contribution or a One-Time contribution.
